FMF Bridges is an adaptation of the standard Families Moving Forward Foundations intervention, tailored to support infants and toddlers with prenatal alcohol exposure, with or at risk for FASD and their caregivers.
This caregiver-focused intervention is designed for implementation in community birth-to-three centers. It merges components of FASD-informed care with family-centered and relationship-based early intervention practices. FMF Bridges aims to strengthen the caregiver-child relationship, reduce family stress and develop skills that help caregivers and children manage emotions and move through daily routines with greater ease.
A feasibility study is currently underway to examine whether FMF Bridges can be practically implemented and delivered with fidelity within a local early intervention setting. The study also explores provider and caregiver acceptability and satisfaction with the intervention.
If the feasibility study demonstrates the expected changes in outcomes, the findings will be used to inform a small pilot randomized controlled trial across three early intervention sites: one urban, one rural, and one tribal community setting.
The study is funded by NIH-NIAAA (1R61AA031695-01) Families Moving Forward Bridges: An Early Intervention Enhancement for Infants and Toddlers with PAE with or at-risk for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders
